CENTRAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION ( CBI ) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is India's premier premier investigative police agency under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions. Established in 1941 as the Special Police Establishment (SPE), it investigates serious corruption, economic crimes, and high-profile offenses, acting as the nodal agency for INTERPOL. Establishment & Authority: The CBI was formed in 1963 by a resolution of the Ministry of Home Affairs, inheriting its powers from the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946. It is not a statutory body. Jurisdiction: The CBI investigates corruption cases involving central government officials, complex multi-state crimes, and cases referred by state governments or superior courts (Supreme Court/High Courts).
